I hope all is well and family life isn’t too crazy these days. We hope to see everyone again this Sunday morning (10/12) at 9:50AM for our newest session. Visitors from the country of Dominica will also pop in during our sessions.
Here’s what the sessions were about last Sunday. These will also be posted online on the Parents Only Blog portion of the ministry website. EDGE Last Sunday we talked about the seven Sacraments and how they were all instituted by Jesus, where they are found in Scripture, and how he commanded his disciples to carry on the tradition of the Sacraments in the Church. We also talked about how the fullness of all seven Sacraments are found in the Catholic Church. EPIC Last Sunday we discussed the Gospel reading from Matthew about the master taking care of his vineyard. We discussed how God cares for us and how we should care for all of God’s creation: family, others, nature, etc. We talked about St. Francis since his feast day is October 4th. We read the children’s book The Song of Francis by Tomie dePaola. No Session on 10/19 Next Session on 10/26 Please follow same drop off and pick-up procedure. Thank you! Upcoming Ministry Events 11/8/14– CHOSEN: Called To Be More , a MS (6-8) Youth Rally at Good Shepherd 5:00PM-9:30PM. The first few weeks have been great. We hope to see you and your child this Sunday, 10/5. Please remember the sessions begin at 9:50AM.
A note for High School and Middle School Parents: The Inside/Out Retreat is this Saturday, 10/4, starting at 12:00PM until 5:30PM. The retreat is themed around how God looks into our heart from the inside out and how we shouldn’t base our worth or others on their outside appearance alone. We will have closing Mass in Cortona Hall with Fr. Dave. Please respond ASAP if your child will be participating. The registration deadline is tomorrow, Wednesday, 10/1. If we don’t have enough participants by then we will have to cancel the retreat. Here’s what the sessions were about on Sunday. These will also be posted online on the Parents Only Blog portion of the ministry website. EDGE Today we talked about grace and how it is a free gift of God that is given to us to help us throughout our lives and to bring us into a deeper union with Him. We also discussed how graces are given to us through the Sacraments and how each Sacrament has graces to help us in each stage of our lives, with the Eucharist being the summit. Here are some questions to ask your youth: What is grace? How do we receive grace? Why are the Sacraments so important? EPIC The lesson challenged the students to think about choices they make in their daily lives at home, at school, and at play based upon the Gospel reading from Matthew 21. We are all human and God always loves us. God takes great joy in seeing us make loving choices when we interact with our family, neighbors, friends, classmates and teachers. Grades K-1 reviews at the beginning of class the sign of the cross and end class with the Lord’s prayer. Next Session: 10/5, 9:50AM-10:55AM Please follow same drop off and pick-up procedure. This will be a newsletter I will try to send out after each session to let each of you know a little bit about what each session was about and for EDGE parents, a few helpful questions to have a conversation with your child after the session . These will also be posted online on the Parents Only Blog portion of the ministry website. EDGE This session was about this year’s EDGE theme, INSPIRE[D]. Your youth had the opportunity to dive into what characteristics make someone a hero and cause them to lead inspiring lives. They learned that the word inspired comes from the Latin word “to breath [life] into” and that God is the source of all inspiration for He breathed life into each and every one of us. Here are some questions to ask your child this week: 1. What characteristics make a heroic person? 2. Who are some inspiring people in your life? 3. What gifts has God given you to help you live out a life that is inspirational? Do you truly believe that you are called to and capable of being a saint? EPIC Each session is themed around the Gospel on Sunday. The Gospel was shared in a way your child could understand it best and they worked on an activity to connect the main theme of the Gospel to their life. Ask your child about their session! Next Session: 9/28, 9:50AM-10:55AM Please follow same drop off and pick-up procedure. Thank you!
